AMREF’s One Legendary Evening Raises a Net Total of $50,000
One Legendary Evening was truly a night to remember.
With the sound of planes taking off over head and with his single engine Cessna parked beside him, Scott Griffin captivated the crowd with poetry and tales of his solo flight from Canada to Nairobi. He gave listeners a glimpse of the life changing adventure that followed his harrowing flight, and his two years alongside the AMREF Flying Doctors.
Dr. Asrat Mengiste, the head surgeon with the AMREF Flying Doctors in Nairobi, provided a gripping firsthand account of AMREF’s work in the Horn of Africa responding to the drought. He also spoke about the impact the AMREF Flying Doctors Service has made. With a relatively small number of staff, AMREF’s clinical outreach program conducts thousands of consultations and surgeries and provides on the job training for hundreds of healthcare professionals across rural and remote areas in Africa.
The setting, vintage AMREF photography and the lively Zimbabwean music played by the Tich Maredza Band provided the perfect setting to learn about and celebrate the accomplishments of AMREF and the AMREF Flying Doctor service.
