IDP Awareness Day
On Thursday June 25, 2009 AMREF Canada participate
d in IDP Awareness Day.
IDP stands for Internally Displaced Person. People who have been forced to leave their homes, usually from war, but do not leave their own country.
There are 26 million IDPs in the world today. They outnumber refugees two to one yet their plight receives little international attention.
IDP Awareness Day brought organizations, community groups and artists together to educate Canadians about the millions of displaced people in the world today.
AMREF Canada showcased a photo exhibit of life in a northern Ugandan IDP Camp.
