Call for Committee Members – Monthly Community Building Event
(Formerly the AMREF Coffee House Speaker Series)
The project:
Back by popular demand, AMREF will be hosting a monthly public engagement and networking event to raise interest and awareness about health issues affecting Africa. Previously called AMREF’s Coffee House Speaker Series we want this event to be similar – feature engaging speakers, create networking opportunities and provide an intimate environment to discuss new ideas and issues affecting health in Africa. We also want this event to be better by leveraging the power of social media and engaging more people and increasing awareness about important issues and events that affect health in sub-Saharan Africa.
What your tasks will be:
As a member of AMREF Canada’s public engagement committee you will work very closely with AMREF Canada’s staff to design, manage and publicize the monthly public engagement event. You will shape the event – its location, set up and atmosphere. You will help promote and market the event, recruit engaging speakers and help integrate it into AMREF Canada’s larger social media and communications strategy.
Availability:
This is a part-time, flexible position. Committee members will meet either in the evenings or weekends (committee members and AMREF staff will determine best times meet). Ideally the committee will meet once or twice a week, and will be expected to invest anywhere from 5 – 10 hours of work a week (depending on roles and responsibilities) in to the initiative. Committee members will also be expected to attend the monthly event.
Compensation:
This is a voluntary position – an opportunity to get involved and be part of AMREF’s work, build your resume and be part of a dedicated and fun team.
If you’re interested:
Please send your resume, and a brief letter outlining;
1. Why you want to be involved and
