PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT:
NEW! Improving TB Diagnosis and Treatment in Uganda
Every year more than 2 million people die from tuberculosis (TB). The disease is most devastating in poor communities and countries with high HIV/AIDS rates.
In Uganda more than 40,000 people are infected with TB every year. High rates of malaria and HIV also complicate preventing and treating the disease.

But there's good news!

AMREF recently received funding from the Stop TB Partnership to improve diagnosis and treatment services in two central Ugandan towns. Learn more about this new initiative and help support AMREF’s work improving health by donating today.

Running for African Mothers
Vanessa Hynes, wife of Canada’s Ambassador to six East African countries ran the Ottawa Marathon this past weekend to raise awareness about AMREF’s work improving maternal and child health in East Africa.

Mrs. Hynes was introduced to AMREF during her current post in Nairobi. She is particularly concerned for the thousands of African mothers who sustain fistulas – an injury that occurs when a baby gets lodged in its mother’s birth canal during labour.

Watch an interview with Vanessa by the Ottawa Citizen and read more about her Run for African Mothers.

But there are many more people that could benefit from this help. Only 20 per cent of people in African have access to basic financial services. Learn more about AMREF's work providing microcredit loans and how you can have your voice heard.
