Voluntary Physician Program

Voluntary Physicians

AMREF brings experienced physicians from around the world to work with the Flying Doctor Emergency Service in Nairobi Kenya.

The program was established to encourage physicians to fly on aero-medical emergency missions and exchange knowledge and skills in emergency care with AMREF’s air ambulance health professionals.

Criteria

Participants must be qualified physicians, with at least 4 years working experience post graduation, in intensive care medicine, pre-hospital care and emergency medicine.

Working experience in intensive care medicine is important, as skills and confidence in all emergency procedures e.g. RS intubation, insertion of chest tubes, etc and the management of mechanically ventilated patients are mandatory.

Ideally, volunteer physicians should hold current certificates in Advanced Cardiac-, Trauma- and Pediatric Life Support. Experience in aeromedical transport is also recommended.
