Edmonton Development Committee

AMREF Canada is pleased to begin developing a presence in Western Canada.

Led by Dr. Zaheer Lahkani, CM, a member of AMREF Canada’s Board of Directors, this development is AMREF’s first initiative to create wider awareness across Canada of AMREF’s work in Africa. Five talented individuals comprise AMREF’s first committee in Western Canada, based in Edmonton.

School girls in Kibera taught by AMREF.
Having organized a private reception and a public photo exhibit, both generating interest from within the Edmonton community in 2009, the Committee has invited Dr. John Nduba, AMREF’s Director of Reproductive and Child Health, to speak at a private event in November 2010.

Dr. Nduba will also meet with key individuals in Edmonton and Calgary to speak about AMREF’s training and education of nurses, midwives and community health workers to provide mothers and children in Africa with better survival and health outcomes.
